Senior Design Capstone Project
During the senior year of the Penn State curriculum a student is required to complete a year long course called the Senior Capstone Project. For engineers this course is a design project that must be sponsored and provided by a company. Normally students are but into groups and supervised by a faculty advisor. At the end of the course a presentation is made to showcase their work which is a accumulation use of all the knowledge they have gain in their course work
My senior design project was very unique and occurred under unusual circumstances. Normally one keeps the same group and project throughout the year. However, I was taken off of my project and group and asked to do another project by alone. Since the time that this event occurred half way through the year the project was scaled so one person could do it in half the year. The reasons for this are varied, but sufficed to say there were many problems with this specific group.
The task of the project was to create a method or theoretical device that could measure the torque and speed of a fan test rig. The hardest part of this project was to figure out which assumptions were valid and supported. At the conclusion of this project my judgment for what logic is correct had significantly increased along with my interpersonal and team work skills. These skills I intend to use for the rest of my life to prevent any conflict in any group that I am ever in an promote a smoother work pace.
